National Career Development Week 16 to 22 May – register your events today!

The National Career Development Week (NCDW) campaign (also known as “Aussie Career Week”) will celebrate its fifth successful year from 16 to 22 May, 2011. The NCDW campaign is a unique initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA), which motivates and supports many hundreds of thousands of Australians each year to get the life they love!

With just over a week to go to NCDW celebration week, don’t forget to register your careers activities today - remember it takes 10 days to receive your event kit! Registering your event is as easy as completing a simple event registration form on our website and don’t forget – it’s not just about the week, you can register all your careers events taking place during the year.

The quality of NCDW registered activities in 2011 is outstanding and increasingly imaginative, with many event organisers putting on multiple career development activities throughout the week. NCDW registered events target the career development needs and preferences of communities, business, industry, government departments, and educational providers from Primary Schools through to High Schools, TAFE and University. There’s information, advice and support available for Australians of all ages and career stages.

Network Ten, Foxtel and The Wiggles Support NCDW Campaign

With the National Career Development Week (NCDW) campaign's annual celebration week almost upon us, the NCDW 2011 community service announcement (CSA) campaign is soon to commence across TV and radio networks nationally. When you see or hear any of our NCDW CSAs, we’d love to hear from you, and there are three $50 pre-paid Visa Debit Cards up for grabs for your efforts! Just email the details (including when and where you saw or heard the CSA) to contact_team@ncdw.com.au

We thank Network Ten for their continued support of the NCDW campaign. Network Ten have this year once again generously donated “priority one” airtime to an NCDW community service announcement, presented by ambassadors Angela Bishop and Mark Furze and encouraging all Australians to be proactive about their careers.  This NCDW CSA exclusive to Network Ten will start screening nationally during May.

The Wiggles also continue to provide their support for the NCDW campaign in 2011. Having generously donated a special NCDW message to be used as a TV community service announcement in 2009, which previously aired on TV screens across the nation in 2009 and 2010, The Wiggles have agreed for it to broadcast again in 2011. The MCN Network (Foxtel/ Austar) will support the NCDW campaign by providing generous airtime to this CSA during 16 to 22 May.

In addition to the TV CSAs, a range of inspiring career development messages spoken by Mark Furze, David Wirrpanda, and Anthony Field, will run on metro and regional radio stations across Australia from 14 to 21 May. So keep your eyes and ears open and don’t forget to email us the details!

NCDW 2011 Media Kit to Help You Promote Your Messages

Now is the time when you need to be promoting your National Career Development Week (NCDW) event to local media. It is very important to remember that most local newspapers will require media releases during the week prior to the week of publication – so you can’t leave it until a day or two before your event! NCDW has made it even easier for our registered event organisers to promote your event and its messages to your audience via your local media. The NCDW 2011 Media Kit is already up on the website to help you.

Sometimes the best way you can promote awareness and gain community support for your messages is to engage the interest of your local newspaper or radio station. If your event is open to the public, you need to send a media release today to meet weekly newspaper print deadlines. If your event is invite only, or for your staff or students, your local media are more likely to be interested in a post-event media release plus photos of your event - but make sure you tell your local newspaper (or radio station) about your event and its messages at least one week before!

The NCDW 2011 Media Kit consists of the latest NCDW media release, an easy to complete “Spotlight on events in your community” media release template, and some eye-catching NCDW artwork to email to your local newspapers and radio stations. Remember to make a follow-up call to make sure they have received the information about your event and that they know who to contact for more details. Be enthusiastic about your event and its importance to the local community and you’ll find that they will be too! Local newspapers and radio stations always need good local interest stories – with the NCDW media kit, it couldn’t be easier for you to gain local media support for your career development messages!

Promote NCDW in your school newsletter – simply cut and paste the following paragraph …

The NCDW campaign is a unique initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA), which motivates and supports many hundreds of thousands of Australians each year to get the life they love! Coming soon – New NCDW Speaker Series of Videos

Coming soon in 2011, a brand new NCDW Video Series will provide a further inspiring classroom resource – the NCDW Speaker Series. Have Your Say activity

In the Foyer at the recent NCDW Forum we conducted a “Have your Say” activity. The findings were interesting - of the 105 responses recorded to the question - What do you consider is the greatest challenge in your community to - get the life you love?

  • 55% indicated Motivation;
  • 16% indicated Opportunities;
  • 12% indicated Access to Education and Training;
  • 11% indicated Information about career development; and
  • 6% indicated Support Services.

These results mirror the results from the same NCDW activity - Campaign Launch and Community Forum - held in the Campbelltown Local Government Area in 2010.

Why don’t you run this activity in your school or the local shopping centre? See the event template on the NCDW website. Let us know the responses you get in your area by sending an email to contact_team@ncdw.com.au - and don't forget that you can register this activity on the NCDW website and get NCDW merchandise sent to you!
