NCDW 2011 Campaign Launch & Celebrate Diversity Forum
Attended by over 250 locals, the Melbourne community were last week given some special encouragement to take control of their future by Steve Liebmann (TV & radio broadcaster), Eddie McGuire (TV & radio personality/President Collingwood FC/ businessman), David Wirrpanda (former AFL player/ David Wirrpanda Foundation), Sam Sheppard (Women into Building Initiative/ Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council) and other inspiring local career ambassadors - at the 2011 National Career Development Week (NCDW) Campaign Launch.
The launch, this year themed “Celebrate Diversity - Get the Life You Love,” was attended by a wide range of education and training, community and business organisations, from across the Darebin Council region in Victoria – along with hundreds of school students. The forum was held at NMIT in Preston, in partnership with the Career Education Association of Victoria (CEAV) and the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT). It was based on a successful model previously organised by NCDW in conjunction with community groups of the Campbelltown Local Government Area, West of Sydney, in NSW. For the full story, read our media release on the NCDW website.
"Have Your Say" activity
In the Foyer at the Forum we conducted a “Have your Say” activity. The findings were interesting - of the 105 responses recorded to the question - What do you consider is the greatest challenge in your community to - get the life you love?
- 55% indicated Motivation;
- 16% indicated Opportunities;
- 12% indicated Access to Education and Training;
- 11% indicated Information about career development; and
- 6% indicated Support Services.
These results mirror the results from the same NCDW activity - Campaign Launch and Community Forum - held in the Campbelltown Local Government Area in 2010.
Why don’t you run this activity in your school or the local shopping centre? See the event template on the NCDW website. Let us know the responses you get in your area by sending an email to contact_team@ncdw.com.au - and don't forget that you can register this activity on the NCDW website and get NCDW merchandise sent to you!

More NEW Video Resources
We will be creating a series of videos from the Celebrate Diversity – Get the Life you Love Forum (one of each of the three guest speakers) that will be available on our AusCareerWeek YouTube Channel in the coming weeks so that we can share the Forum with adults and students who were unable to attend and to be used as a motivation resource for students. So keep an eye on the website in the next few weeks – see Latest News on our website's Home page.
Register your careers activities with NCDW and get free resources!
National Career Development Week 2011 invites all organisers of events with a career-related theme to register your events on our database at www.ncdw.com.au. Remember that whilst our celebration week will this year take place from 16 to 22 May 2011, you can register events being held at any time in the months ahead. To get registered it’s as easy as completing the Events Registration Form on our website. Once registered, you’ll be able to use all the resources on the website to assist you to run a successful career development activity. All we ask is that you clearly brand your event as an NCDW registered event.
