Latest news: National Career Development Week 2009 launch proves that career development is for everyone - you can find a career that best suits your skills and interests. View Video.
National Career Development Week 2009 launched with spectacular success, on Thursday 12 March, in and around the Australian National Maritime Museum at Sydney's Darling Harbour. Our hugely energetic Ambassador and Blue Wiggle Anthony Field demonstrated he's passionate about learning new skills in his own life - and encouraging all Australians to be proactive about finding a job that matches their interests and lifestyle.
The Blue Wiggle, who in another life genuinely believes he would have joined the Water Police, got to further his career dreams, with the support of some major maritime industry partners. These included NSW Police Force, the Australian National Maritime Museum, the Navy, NSW Maritime, and the Department of Primary Industries - Fisheries.
NCDW Ambassador and veteran news broadcaster Steve Liebmann brought his expertise to oversee proceedings and ensure everyone learnt something from the experience. Navy cadets, school students, maritime museum trade apprentices, Police Sergeants and Inspectors, Fisheries officers, were amongst the array of maritime personnel, trying out the navy simulator and enjoying the beautiful day out on the water. We could see why Sergeant Larry Malone (who has just celebrated 30 years in the Water Police) claims he has the best office in the world!
Whether you're an educator, parent, or an individual with a passionate interest in maritime, find out more about career development opportunities with our maritime event partners via the NCDW website.
For a fun educational exercise check out our glossary of maritime terms on the NCDW website.
NCDW Story Coverage - Channel 9's A Current Affair program features NCDW, plus SkillsOne features NCDW as SkillsOne video
National Career Development Week featured on the Nine network's national primetime program, A Current Affair, on Friday 13 March 2009. Nine Reporter Howard Gibbs spoke to the Blue Wiggle from The Wiggles film set about his activities at the NCDW launch event, as part of A Current Affair's Kickstart Jobs series. If you missed it, you can view the clip on our website. Go to the ACA website for more information about the Kickstart Initiative - you'll see National Career Development Week there.
We're very excited that this year SkillsOne have featured our 2009 launch event activities, with NCDW Ambassador Blue Wiggle Anthony Field and maritime industry partners, as a SkillsOne video. It's really inspiring stuff and is definitely worth a look!
Special Announcement - The Wiggles NCDW CSA for TV, Cinema, NCDW website
Last week The Wiggles - Anthony Field, Jeff Fatt, Murray Cook and Sam Moran - filmed an extra-special CSA (Community Service Announcement) for the National Career Development Week campaign. The CSA, currently in post-production with The Wiggles production team, was offered to NCDW by Anthony Field at our 2009 launch event. A HUGE thank you goes out to The Wiggles and team for their enormous generosity and support. Look out for The Wiggles NCDW CSA nationally on your television screens, in selected cinemas, on the NCDW website, and watch this space...
