Background

NCDW is an initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia and is supported until 2010 by funding from the Australian Government through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

The week of celebrations for the 2009 National Career Development Week Campaign (NCDW) will be 18-24 May 2009, but careers events held at any time during the year can be registered as NCDW events. NCDW aims to raise awareness about career development and emphasise the need for all Australians to develop skills to manage their career, learning, work and lives in order to get the life they love.

In 2008, over 500 events, both large and small, have so far been held nationally.

The NCDW Campaign is dedicated to:
  • Increasing awareness and understanding of the nature and importance of career development
  • Promoting and encouraging Australians to take personal responsibility and ‘ownership’ in the management of their own careers
  • Engaging Australians in active recognition and celebration of National Career Development Week
  • Seeking wider community endorsement and ongoing participation in career development
