1. What is National Career Development Week?
National Career Development Week (17 - 23 May 2010) is a week of celebrations dedicated to:
- Increasing awareness and understanding of the nature and importance of career development
- Promoting and encouraging Australians to take personal responsibility and ‘ownership’ in the management their own careers
- Engaging Australians in active recognition/ celebration of National Career Development Week
- Seeking wider community endorsement and ongoing participation in career development
In short, we want to help encourage Australians to take active ownership of their careers and get the life they love. So, Get Excited about the possibilities, Get Involved and Get Results!

2. What events are being held during National Career Development Week?
You’ll find a calendar of events on the website which details events in your area and across Australia. Go to event search.
We are updating the event calendar all the time so remember to check regularly for new events.
3. Who is involved in National Career Development Week?
National Career Development Week is an initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) and is funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). CICA members are experts in career development.
Everyone can get involved by running or attending an event, and by encouraging friends, colleagues and family to participate. Perhaps you’re trying to decide on a career path or thinking about future subject choices? Perhaps you’re helping someone make a decision on a career direction, thinking about changing jobs or just want to learn more about different types of occupations? Whatever your aim – there should be something that appeals to you. If not, create something!

4. Why should I take part?
By participating in, or running an event, you could:
- make a real difference to the lives of Australians
- raise awareness of career development within your community and across Australia
- raise the profile of your organisation within your local community

5. How do I run an event or an activity?
The Career Planning Resources on the website will guide you through the elements of planning and running an event for National Career Development Week.
Looking for event ideas - check out the Event Ideas Factsheet and the Event Templates, but there are many more inspiring activities if you think ‘outside the square’. Be creative and have fun!
The other way to get event ideas is to check out what others are doing. Research the Find an Event page for a huge list of ideas. You'll even find a contact number for the event organiser if you have any questions.
Remember to enter your event on the National Career Development Week calendar. Click on Register an Event or 'Get Going' to access the submit an event form. Once you submit the form, your event will be checked and approved by our administrator. Once it is approved, it will go live on the site and you will be sent an Event Kit.
Please Note: All events promoted as part of National Career Development Week must have appropriate insurance – refer to the Event Planning Resources page for further information. Insurance is the responsibility of the Event Presenter/Coordinator.
6. Is there any funding available for my event?
NCDW is not able to provide any funding for individual events. We provide support through providing resources to assist you in organising your events and merchandise to distribute at your events.
These resources and merchandise are forwarded to all REGISTERED NCDW events. To register your event go to Register your Event

7. What National Career Development Week resources and merchandise are available?
The NEW National Career Development Week High Five Video Series is now being distributed to all NCDW registered event organisers. In an Australian First, the NCDW Video Series - The HIgh Five Messages of Career Development is a unique communication tool, especially designed to engage the 15 to 24 age group, to make them aware of the benefits of career development - what it is and how to do it. These six career development videos have been developed specifically by the Team at National Career Development Week in conjunction with the Career Industry Council of Australia. The videos, presented in a cool, upbeat, and motivational style by Mark Furze (actor, musician) and Angela Bishop (Network Ten News Entertainment reporter), are supported by interviews with career development practitioners and a range of inspiring NCDW Ambassadors. The videos also include Closed Captions for the hearing impaired.
NCDW have developed a range of Career Factsheets for you to download, print and distribute at your event.

The resources on the Event Kit disc (previously included with the Event Kit merchandise) are now all available online. See Event Planning Resources. These resources are free to download.
There are a number of career information booklets, posters and worksheets which can be downloaded or ordered from the DEEWR website.
8. How can I promote National Career Development Week in my local area?
As most of the events are targeted at local and regional audiences, the marketing and publicity for your event is up to your own organising committee. However, you should register your events on the National Career Development Week event calendar.

9. Can I register for a free e-newsletter?
You can register for a free e-newsletter. We will send out regular updates on National Career Development Week. You can unsubscribe at any time.
10. Can I Use the National Career Development Week logo at my Event, or for my Event Publicity?
Yes, we encourage all Event Hosts and Holders to use the National Career Development Week Logo. You can use the logo either electronically or in printed form or on your Web Site.
