1. What is National Career Development Week?
National Career Development Week (2 – 8 June 2008) is a week of celebrations dedicated to:
- Increasing awareness and understanding of the nature and importance of career development
- Promoting and encouraging Australians to take personal responsibility and ‘ownership’ in the management their own careers
- Engaging Australians in active recognition/ celebration of National Career Development Week
- Seeking wider community endorsement and ongoing participation in career development
In short, we want to help encourage Australians to take active ownership of their careers and get the life they love. So, Get Excited about the possibilities, Get Involved and Get Results!

2. What events are being held during National Career Development Week?
You’ll find a calendar of events on the website which details events in your area and across Australia. Go to ‘’ for the event search.
We are updating the event calendar all the time so remember to check regularly for new events.
3. Who is involved in National Career Development Week?
The Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) has been funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to run the very first National Career Development Week. CICA members are experts in career development.
Everyone can get involved by running or attending an event, and by encouraging friends, colleagues and family to participate. Perhaps you’re trying to decide on a career path or thinking about future subject choices? Perhaps you’re helping someone make a decision on a career direction, thinking about changing jobs or just want to learn more about different types of occupations? Whatever your aim – there should be something that appeals to you. If not, create something!

4. Why should I take part?
By participating in, or running an event, you could:
- make a real difference to the lives of Australians
- raise awareness of career development within your community and across Australia
- raise the profile of your organisation within your local community

- improve the skills of your staff and volunteers

5. How do I run an event or an activity?
The free Event Kit will guide you through the elements of planning and running an event for National Career Development Week. The kit includes a list of event ideas, but there are many more inspiring activities if you think ‘outside the square’. Be creative and have fun! Some of these Fact Sheets will also be loaded on the website soon.
Remember to enter your event on the National Career Development Week calendar. Click on 'Register an Event' or 'Get Going' to access the submit an event form. Once you submit the form, your event will be checked and approved by an administrator. Once it is approved, it will go live on the site and you will be sent an Event Kit.
Please Note: All events promoted as part of National Career Development Week must have appropriate insurance – refer to your Event Kit for further information. Insurance is the responsibility of the Event Presenter/Coordinator.
6. Is there any funding available to assist with the running events?
Some funding may be available. For more information - send an email outlining your event and including your contact details to Karen Penrose at info@ncdw.com.au
7. What National Career Development Week resources and merchandise are available?

If you’d like an Event Kit to help you run your event, go to ‘Register an Event’. The kit is available for free download.
There are a number of career information booklets, posters and worksheets which can be downloaded or ordered from the DEEWR website at: http://www.dest.gov.au/careerdevelopment.
8. How can I promote National Career Development Week in my local area?
As most of the events are targeted at local and regional audiences, the marketing and publicity for your event is up to your own organising committee. However, you should register your events on the National Career Development Week event calendar.
The free Event Kit has lots of tips for promoting your event. A range of templates in PDF and Word format will soon be available for free-download, including a press release, community service announcement, National Career Development Week posters, sponsorship letters and fact sheets.
9. Can I register for a free e-newsletter?
You can register for a free e-newsletter. We will send out regular updates on National Career Development Week. You can unsubscribe at any time.
10. Can I Use the National Career Development Week logo at my Event, or for my Event Publicity?
Yes, we encourage all Event Hosts and Holders to use the National Career Development Week Logo. You can use the logo either electronically or in printed form or on your Web Site.
