What do Anthony Field, Benji Marshall and The Big Red Car have to do with the National Career Development Week Campaign?
02/20/08 - adminTo celebrate the Launch of the 2008 National Career Development Week Campaign (NCDW), Blue Wiggle and NCDW Champion, Anthony Field, swapped his trademark blue skivvy for a Wests Tigers jersey to pursue his lifelong dream to play professional NRL.
Blue Wiggle and NCDW Champion Anthony Field, recently swapped his trademark blue skivvy for a Wests Tigers jersey, to pursue his lifelong dream to learn the skills of professional Rugby League - with his idol, famous five-eighth Benji Marshall.
Anthony is an Ambassador for the National Career Development Week campaign (NCDW), a public awareness initiative that encourages all Australians to learn new skills and Get the life you Love!
NCDW Ambassador Anthony had a huge grin on his face while saying that, as The Wiggles' story proves, career development never really ends - even if you love what you do. Says Anthony, "If you've got an idea just go for it. I recently got the opportunity to follow another dream - to become a Wests Tiger!"
Anthony's career has certainly taken some surprising twists. His career story with The Wiggles is well documented as growing out of a University assignment while studying early childhood education - and his previous careers as a pop star with 80's band The Cockroaches, and in the Australian army, are not the most obvious career path to this. Yet Anthony says he learnt some important skills in the army, playing the bagpipes and getting up early which serves him well while on tour with The Wiggles!
When asked at the NCDW Skills Event what he hoped to learn from Benji, Anthony said, "Everything, I'm going to study every move", and added that it would be fantastic to incorporate Benji's famous side-step into his Wiggles dancing.
Anthony said, "I'll give him the Wiggle fingers - that will work well in a game - while he's waiting for the ball ..."
Career Industry Council of Australia President, Mike Geeves, says "Career development is all about assisting all Australians to take responsibility for their own career, and - as Anthony demonstrates - to recognise that just about everything we do, planned and unplanned, can contribute to our goals and aspirations." He added, "It's not just about careers it's about getting the life that you love!"
This year's campaign will culminate with a week of national celebrations encouraging career development across Australia from 2 to 8 June.
