Young Gun Mark Furze Challenges Anthony Mundine

The Silver Logie nominated young actor and NCDW Champion Mark Furze has stepped into the ring, to put Anthony and Tony Mundine’s skills to the test, and learn the positive skills that boxing can offer young people, from two legends of the sport.

This event completes the Champion Skills Events series for this year’s National Career Development Week campaign - where our Ambassadors and Event Partners have actively participated in inspiring all Australians to develop new skills - in the lead up to a week of national celebrations encouraging career development across Australia from 2 to 8 June, 2008.

Mark has always enjoyed a challenge and looked for opportunities outside of his role on Home and Away to pursue the positive impacts that personal experiences can bring – from making it to the final three in Channel Seven’s singing program It Takes Two or as an Ambassador for the Asthma Foundation.

Says Mark, “I've been fortunate through my career in acting and music to be able to learn new skills - such as boxing - and gain confidence I may never have had the chance to develop. Boxing develops other important life skills such as stamina, concentration, and co-ordination. I encourage all young Australians to go out and seek new challenges – you never know where they might take you!”

The event took place at the Mundines' gym in the heart of Redfern that aims to benefit the local Aboriginal community in that area. Anthony Mundine, who has long demonstrated his commitment to the cause of youth issues, happily gave his time to share some insights into his craft with the popular young actor.

Says Anthony, “Anybody can achieve anything out of life. I've found, in my career, the mind is the most powerful tool - and it can do wonders, whatever you want to become, whatever profession.”

The National Career Development Week campaign encourages all Australians to “Get the life you Love!”
